The Black Hawk Ranch was established in 1961 by Olin and Winnie McKee, who, along with their sons, hosted a variety of equestrian events, including rodeos, horse shows, and clinics. In 1986, the ranch was purchased by Ken and Deloras Melton, who initiated a breeding program for registered Texas Longhorn cattle and American Quarter Horses, and later introduced horse shows and rodeos in 1989. The ranch continued to host a range of events, including high school rodeos and team penning, and team roping competitions. In 2024, the Melton family continues the Black Hawk Ranch Rodeo tradition.
